Two students from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) have been recognised among Ghana's top young insurance talents at the 2026 Tertiary Achievers Awards, organised by the Association of Young Insurance Professionals (YIPs Ghana) under the auspices of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG).

Emmanuel Sowah secured second place, while Francis Kusi placed fourth in the national competition, which honoured outstanding tertiary students for proposing innovative solutions to challenges facing Ghana's insurance industry.

Held during the CIIG Insurance Excellence Awards in Accra, the annual competition attracted 40 entries from universities and colleges across the country. Participants were tasked with developing practical strategies to help the insurance industry mitigate the growing impact of flooding and flood-related losses in Ghana.

The awards, now in their third year, form part of YIPs Ghana's flagship youth development initiative to identify, nurture and celebrate talented students with an interest in insurance and risk management while strengthening links between academia and industry.

The initiative seeks to expose students to career opportunities in underwriting, claims management, risk management, actuarial science, brokerage and insurance leadership while cultivating the next generation of insurance professionals.

The five award recipients were selected following a rigorous assessment by an independent panel of judges and were recognised before an audience of insurance executives, regulators, practitioners, academics and other stakeholders at the 2026 CIIG Insurance Excellence Awards.
